Happy October, everyone. Last year I wrote a lot of cinejournal entries for the “monthly movie list,” and I wanted to bring it back! However, as film lovers and makers, especially this time of year, I know a lot of us are busy with endless projects. I know from my time as a film majorin’, sometimes the enjoyment and love of film can get lost on you in these moments, but it is vital to RESIST. This list is October-themed, I suppose, but furthermore, it’s a list I specially curated to inspire and educate. I don’t think there is one way to enjoy or create great films, so there is a spectrum of selections below, and of course if you’re looking for more recs, follow me on Letterboxd duhhhh.

Review
It’s very rare to watch a feature film—a documentary? something between the two terms?—and watch an art form actively evolve before your eyes. Directors Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim have created such a masterful work of journalism and narrative storytelling with “You Can See Everything” that, even in witnessing its most disturbing and unsettling moments, I felt an Elizabeth-Holmesian smile appear on my face with the knowledge that I was witnessing something truly gargantuan for the future of filmmaking.

Towards the end of January, BU welcomed its students back after a long and cozy winter break. Students were buzzing with excitement at what the spring semester had to offer, completely unknowing to the whopping 20 inches of snow that Boston was about to drop on them. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!! My favorite thing about writing the monthly movie list for cinejournal is 1) pleading for you all to watch movies I like & 2) watching movies instead of doing homework so I can classify it as still doing work, yippie!!!! Christmas is my favorite holiday, so this time of year is really special to me. It makes me really happy, but nothing makes me happier than being surrounded by what I love...

Liam Henson is a senior studying Psychology who rushed DKA in the Spring of 2022 as a sophomore. Henson admitted he became much more involved with DKA in his senior year when he took on the Standards Board position of Risk Management Chair. Earlier this year, I coerced my close friend to come see Challengers, a movie I’d been anticipating since even before its deliciously provocative trailer came out ten months prior. I was leaning out of my seat, practically drooling, eager to soak up every detail on the big screen (and soak them up I did, as I went back to the theaters for this film three more times). However, as we walked out of the AMC, my friend remarked that he really didn’t feel the movie was gay enough.

Grace O’Brien is a Public Relations major with a minor in Film. Within DKA, O’Brien served on the chapter’s Executive Council as head of Public Relations for all of her junior year, and in the fall of her senior year, she wrote and directed the fraternity’s semester production, Ash Wednesday.

Sofia Lepore is a senior studying Business in Questrom with a concentration in marketing and business analytics. Lepore began her time at BU as a Film major, with a tentative plan to dual degree in Film and Business, but after realizing the daunting amount of Questrom requirements she would be taking on, she decided it was more practical to pursue business and be able to graduate in four years instead of six.
