Beta Chapter Fall 2025 Rush Recap!
By Chloe Hampton & Jerry Shi
As September begins and the summer sun shines at its brightest, everyone starts coming back to campus as a new school year begins. We all reunite, asking one another how our summers were or what we did. For students, the talk is about what classes we’re taking or what internships we’re starting — but for DKA members, the biggest topic is rush.
Everyone’s voices are filled with excitement and joy as they can’t wait to meet the people interested in becoming part of our community. Both fall and spring semesters are exciting times as we usher in new members, but in the fall, the pressure is on a bit more. Not only are we bringing in new members, but we’re also welcoming new students to BU—and this year, we did our best to emphasize that in our process.
We started at the COM Fair early in the semester. All the film & television, advertising, and other general communication organizations set up tables in the sun, calling out to curious passersby to check out what they do. We were loud, but it was good. We attracted a lot of people to our table; waving signs, playing music, and going up to people asking them if they were interested in rushing.

Then it came time for Splash: the university’s club fair. We had prepped extensively for Splash, but this was our big test run to see how well we could promote ourselves and gain a larger following. After hours of yelling, “Do you want to make movies?”, blasting Rock That Body by Black Eyed Peas and sending actives around with a sign saying, “You know you wanna rush DKA SOOOOOO badddd”, we got a record-breaking number of over 160 sign-ups! That alone for us is a major success.

Then came the real challenge: rush itself. For rush this year, we wanted to choose a theme almost anyone could enjoy. In the past, we’ve done both genre and movie-specific themes, but picking a single film can narrow the audience. After much deliberation, the recruitment chairs chose to do “Fantasy” as the theme and made each rush event a subgenre of the overall concept.
To start, Speed Dating was dark-fantasy themed. Low candlelight, dark vines, and a smoking cauldron set the atmosphere as potential new members (PNMs) met active members for the first time. The Mixer followed a wizard theme, with actives and PNMs split into Hogwarts houses and competing in a Jeopardy-style trivia game for points. Game Night was sci-fi themed—the GSU Backcourt was decorated like the Millennium Falcon, with actives decked out in glitter and glow sticks while playing board games with PNMs.
Lastly, the Scavenger Hunt took on a knight theme. Actives, with swords in hand, led PNMs through a quest across realms to save a mysterious princess from an odd dragon. The knights first returned Cinderella’s shoe, talked to trolls under the BU Bridge, and fetched a potion from Hermione Granger before silly-stringing Wilmer the Dragon, our very own president, to death and rescuing our secretary, Princess Thomas DeAmorin. You kind of had to be there.
Rush is important not only for gaining new members but also for spending time together after a long break. Everyone pitches in to help where they can—whether setting up and cleaning decorations, helping cook dinner for Blue Chip, or braving the heat while tabling at Splash. Everyone’s effort helped set a great foundation for the year. DKA isn’t just about making films and connecting with filmmakers—it’s about being cinematic artists of character and helping our siblings out.

Now, as we begin TROT and start production with our pledges PA’ing on set, we can reflect on how recently they were all just rushing. We’re so excited to welcome them into our chapter and can’t wait to see what they bring to DKA!
