DKA Beta Chapter Spring 2026 Rush Recap
By Maddie Wennerod
Towards the end of January, BU welcomed its students back after a long and cozy winter break. Students were buzzing with excitement at what the spring semester had to offer, completely unknowing to the whopping 20 inches of snow that Boston was about to drop on them. Luckily, the members of DKA were able to dig their way out of the snow just in time for rush.
We set up our table at Splash 2.0 bright and early, eager to meet our new PNMs (potential new members). Everybody was in high spirits, with DKAs dancing along to the Beach Boys, drawing in people with a sign calling for those interested in film, and showing our impressive teaser for Finally–our production for this semester!–we reached our goal for sign-ups.
Heading into rush, we chose our theme based on how we viewed DKA: as an escape to paradise during the harsh Boston winter. We wanted rush to feel like a vibrant and warm experience for the PNMs, and to foster an environment where both PNMs and active members would want to get to know one another better. After a lot of anticipation and planning, our under-the-sea themed rush was ready to begin!
We kicked off rush with speed dating, which was pirate-themed. To switch things up a bit, each active member was given a unique question to ask the PNMs, such as “what’s your go-to karaoke song?” or “what’s your guilty pleasure film?” After everybody got the opportunity to get acquainted with one another, we ended the night with a showing of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.
For trivia night the next day, groups of PNMs and active members competed against one another for seven rounds. We started off easy with random movie trivia, before moving into more difficult categories like niche film bro trivia and “pitch it,” where the teams had to pitch a film as a certain genre, such as Jaws as a Wes Anderson film. By the end of the night, team “Tubi Winners” took home their medals and more film knowledge.
Game night featured various stations that PNMs rotated from, including a Just Dance station, an intense game of Ninja, multiple rounds of Hungry Hungry Hippos, and one giant game of Mafia.
The final day of rush concluded with a scavenger hunt that sent groups of PNMs and active members on a journey to multiple locations, coming across surfer dudes, sirens, and pirates, who would give out hints to each group to ultimately lead them to Blackbeard’s lair, where the mermaid princess required rescuing. To defeat Blackbeard, the winning team had to slay him with silly string, a weapon powerful enough to leave wounds for a while.
While we’re sad to see rush come to an end, we’re excited to get started with TROT and get to know our wonderful pledges better. Here’s to another successful rush!
